As I wrote at the end of last year, hybrid cloud is emerging as a key component in moving forward with digital transformation. Creating flexible, hybrid infrastructures that can connect on-premise legacy infrastructure with cloud infrastructures is especially important as we move digital government goals forward and try to flip the “innovation equation.” Today, as you may know, 75% of agency IT budgets are spent on legacy system O&M. Imagine all of the new opportunities that will open up for Federal agencies once their infrastructure is flexible enough to enable change and progress. However, to reap the benefits, Federal agencies need to connect legacy and new systems. They need a better understanding of the connection between hybrid cloud and digital transformation. And, it turns out – the two are a perfect match. Power Couple EMC recently partnered with IDG to survey more than 900 IT and business executives across industries to understand the digital transformation/hybrid cloud relationship. The new study shows that sparks fly between hybrid cloud and digital transformation – by increasing IT agility, hybrid cloud makes implementing digital business initiatives a faster, easier, and less expensive process. Additionally, by reducing IT costs, hybrid cloud enables investment in digital transformation. Survey respondents share their hybrid cloud enthusiasm:
Further, respondents with a significant number of workloads in a hybrid cloud are experiencing nearly 50% more IT cost reduction than those with just some hybrid cloud workloads. Hybrid Cloud – Be Mine? Survey respondents identified hybrid cloud as the “great enabler” of digital transformation. Federal IT teams can leverage hybrid cloud to move to a modern, open, agile infrastructure. This, in turn will support many other critical goals – consolidating our data centers, improving our ability to use data analytics to support government missions, and meeting FITARA objectives.
